Le Bal du Moulin Rouge

No photos inside, ladies and gentlemen, so no photos of the feathers and LED plumage, the diamanté eyelashes, the water tank that rose out of the floor so the lady could swim with the snakes...

... danse, danse, Paris danse, Paris danse, danse...

...nor the cancan girls with their frothy petticoats, the singers with their red smiles, the man with the talking dog, the acrobats...

...the tables with their fringed lamps, the bottles of champagne in their ice buckets, the history...

... nor the birthday boy with his big smile.

Art nouveau Sunday

As per usual, I rocked up to this exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay just a few days before it closed, and an hour and a half before the museum shut its doors. A thoughtful look at art nouveau-influenced design, from the nouveau'style of the early years of the twentieth century, to the surrealists of the 30s and psychedelia of the 70s, via naturalism and Aubrey Beardsley.

Running home from the 7th to the 18th through the Tuileries at dusk

Some gorgeous etsy finds, inspired by Art Nouveau...

The Blue Nouveau scarf, by silk painter Alana Bills, creator of works of art you can wear.
The incredible Mata Hari headdress, from MoonshineBaby, who carries a stunning range of feathered and jewelled headresses and fascinators which evoke the steamy Parisian cabarets of the 1900s.

I am never far away from the wedding section these day, this art-nouveau-inspired sash would work wonderully on a backless, 30s-style wedding dress... see Delphine Manivet's Agapan and weep, vintage contemporary fans.

A very special find from ArchipelagoVintage: a 1900s post card album, with gold leaf to the cover and a classic poppy design. Beautiful.

Sumptuous art nouveau-inspired psychedelia from award-winning illustrator Zoe Hong, who has just opened her etsy shop. Check our her beautiful bubbeheads as well.

Good going for a Tuesday

...Will Sleep Cycle for iPhone change my life by allowing me to get out of bed in the mornings?... Which wedding dress... I'm heading for the shock of my life when we have children, the lack of sleep may finish me off... I love my wedding invitations, but which wedding dress??... Cocktails tonight with the girls... Will today be a good day? Please not too many incomprehensible sentences... will I be able to sneak off for lunch on my own to read my book, or will I have to dash around doing things... take book just in case... Which wedding dress?... I love my wedding invitations... I seem to be out of bed early enough to be fiddling around on the Internet, and with both eyes open, and clothes on, and breakfast eaten... maybe it is working... good going for a Tuesday morning.

Stopped my run to take some pictures, freezy frozen, slippy slidey.

I would like curtains

Somewhere between London and Maidstone, 20th December 2009.

...with a print of the winter sun glinting through skeleton trees, then I could always have it at my window.
